EVERETT, WA – On May 4, 2023, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) congratulated two Northwest Washington small businesses that were awarded federal grants under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) Assistance to Small Shipyards Grant Program, which helps shipyards modernize, increase productivity and create jobs.

MARAD awarded $1,168,613 to Everett Ship Repair, Inc. in Everett and $916,166 to All American Marine, Inc. in Bellingham for critical equipment upgrades.

“Small shipyards drive Northwest Washington’s marine economy while serving two U.S. Navy bases, two U.S. Coast Guard facilities and the nation’s largest ferry system,” said Larsen, the lead Democrat on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. “These federal investments will enable shipbuilders in Everett and Bellingham to boost productivity while continuing to create and support local jobs.”

Larsen is a champion of bold, long-term federal investment in Northwest Washington’s marine economy to create more jobs and build a cleaner, greener, safer and more accessible future. Larsen supported the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has invested $166.5 million in Washington port infrastructure so far to strengthen supply chains, address maintenance backlogs, and reduce congestion and emissions near ports. According to MARAD, Assistance to Small Shipyards grants are awarded “to help make capital and infrastructure improvements that facilitate the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and quality of domestic ship construction, conversion or repair for commercial and federal government use.” The grants cover a maximum of 75 percent of the estimated cost of improvements, while the companies awarded the grants are responsible for the remainder.
