Rep. Rick Larsen, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 2nd district since 2001, recently expressed his views on international cooperation and drug trafficking via a series of tweets. These posts were made on February 2, 2025, addressing issues related to U.S.-Canada relations and domestic policies.
In one tweet, Larsen emphasized the importance of enhancing existing international cooperation with Canadian partners. He suggested that this approach would better serve the administration by aiding local law enforcement in holding accountable those responsible for bringing dangerous drugs into communities. Additionally, he highlighted the need to support real treatment and recovery efforts. “The Adminstration is better served by enhancing the existing international cooperation w/our Canadian partners, helping local law enforcement hold accountable those bringing the dangerous drugs into our communities, & supporting real treatment & recovery efforts.”
Another tweet from Larsen criticized a policy decision made by former President Trump regarding tariffs and taxes aimed at compelling Canada to combat drug trafficking and fentanyl imports. He pointed out that fentanyl labs in British Columbia and Canada are relatively new and do not account for the majority of drugs entering the United States. “The Trump tariff & tax increase purports to force our Canadian partners to fight drug trafficking & dangerous fentanyl imports. The reality is fentanyl labs in B.C. & Canada are a relatively new phenomenon & are not the source of a vast majority of the drugs in the U.S.”
Lastly, Larsen called upon others to join him in opposing what he referred to as “the Republican Rip-Off,” advocating for working families’ interests against certain Republican policies. “I won’t stand for it. Join me in standing with working families to push back against the Republican Rip-Off.”
