Anacortes Together: Joining forces for a Safe Reopening of Anacortes
The Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and the City of Anacortes are joining forces for a Safe Reopening of Anacortes. With a primary focus on safeguarding residents and businesses of Fidalgo Island, we will encourage a safe reconnection to local restaurants, retail shops, and exploring the outdoors. We are partnering with our community leaders and business owners to model best practices while out in the community including wearing masks, social distancing, and following sanitization guidelines.
The campaign will work in conjunction with the Experience Anacortes Tourism Marketing Plan already in place with new segments beginning locally as Skagit County progresses through each phase of the Safe Start Washington: A Phased Approach to Recovery plan.
“Our local businesses are working harder than ever to meet the new and continuously changing guidelines and uphold the highest standards to keep us safe! Let’s mask up and do our part to help them stay open,” said Gina Walsh, Chairman of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce.
“As we enter the fall season, we need to think differently about how we envision the upcoming season, how we will shop, and what the holidays will look like. I know Anacortes is a creative and innovative community. The City will work alongside the community into fall and our winter season to support economic stability and the public health of Anacortes. We can mask up, bundle up, and support our town,” said Mayor Laurie Gere.
*The Anacortes Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a contract from the City of Anacortes for $30,500 in CARES Funding to create a phased marketing campaign to support a Safe Reopening of Anacortes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had immeasurable impacts on our Anacortes businesses. Many of these folks have dedicated their entire lives to serving our community, and they are now working harder than ever to meet the new and continuously changing guidelines to keep their doors open and the community safe.
Our restaurants are facing potential closures in the fall and winter when outdoor dining is no longer a viable option. If our positive case numbers do not drop below 25/100,000 people – it is a real possibility that some of our favorite places could permanently close.
How can you help?
Mask up. The longer we continue to pass the virus through community transmission, the more jobs, businesses, and friends we could lose. Any of us can carry the virus and not realize we are spreading it when we talk, cough, or sneeze. Face coverings are required statewide in all public spaces because they are effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19, especially when combined with six-feet of physical distance.
The Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and the City of Anacortes are proud to be working together to encourage Fidalgo Island residents and visitors to mask up and follow the guidelines set by Skagit County Public Health and the CDC.
