Whatcom Community College Launches New Program for Adult Family Home Administrators
For the first time, Whatcom Community College’s Community & Continuing Education program will launch a training course for those seeking to become a licensed Adult Family Home administrator. This is the only training of its kind currently offered in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish and Island counties.
The program, which fulfills Washington state education and Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS) licensure requirements, is comprised of a one-day orientation and a 54-hour course. The course prepares participants for the Adult Family Homes licensing and inspection process, covering topics such as roles and responsibilities of a licensed provider, business and operations, staff management, resident rights and care issues, and laws governing Adult Family Homes. All course materials will be provided, and participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Instructor Robin VanHyning is a registered nurse and holds a master’s degree in nursing education. She has more than 12 years of experience in Adult Family Homes and 35+ years in geriatric long term care administration. The first orientation is Jan. 8 and the first course starts Jan. 11. A second cohort begins Feb. 19.
