Western Washington University Track & Field Head Coach Pee Wee Halsell has been selected as the 2021-22 GNAC Track & Field Men's Coach of the Year.

Recently completing his 35th season at the helm of the WWU Track & Field and Cross Country programs, Halsell earned his 42nd Coach of the Year honor. He earned his third consecutive Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year Award and his ninth overall with the Vikings winning their third consecutive outdoor team title. He also claimed his third straight men's indoor coaching award earlier in 2022, with WWU combining to win the last six men's team titles at the indoor (2019, 2020, 2022) and outdoor (2019, 2021, 2022) conference championships.

At the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Championships held May 13-14 in Ellensburg, the Vikings claimed an 110.5-point victory scoring 240 points. The team's ledger included six individual champions, 21 All-GNAC performances, set one program record, made nine new entries in the WWU outdoor top-10 record book and achieved 20 personal-best marks.

The 2022 WWU Outdoor Track & Field season featured with the Vikings setting five school records (three by Mac Franks) and made 35 entries in to the WWU Track & Field Outdoor Record book (Men – 21, Women – 14). Additionally, eight men's marks and one women's performance cracked the GNAC all-time top 10 during the season. Seniors Amanda Short (Javelin) and Calahan Warren (1500m) each earned First Team All-America honors placing 8th in the nation at the NCAA Division II Championships in Allendale, Michigan.

Between indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country, Halsell has won 24 GNAC Coach of the Year awards and 42 total Coach of the Year honors during his 35-season career at Western, which includes conference, regional and district awards. This was Halsell's ninth all-time GNAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year Award.
