Skagit County to Launch ‘Operation Green Light’ in Support of Local Veterans

In preparation for the Veterans Day holiday, Skagit County is pleased to announce that the County Courthouse will be illuminated green during the week of November 7 as part of Operation Green Light.

A presentation by Skagit County Public Health and other community partners is planned for Monday, November 7 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to provide information and updates about veteran services available in Skagit County. The public is welcome to attend either in-person or virtually using this link: https://bit.ly/SkagitBoCCMtg.

Operation Green Light is a new national collaborative initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) to support military veterans, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

Said County Commissioner Lisa Janicki, “Project Green Light is a simple and engaging way to express our collective appreciation. It is a small gesture that we hope sparks a larger conversation.”
“It is important to make sure our veterans and their families know that their service mattered,” said County Commissioner Ron Wesen. “Skagit County is grateful for their many sacrifices.”

In addition to lighting the County Courthouse, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by changing one light bulb to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors, customers, and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends and family.

“We hope that Skagitonians join us in shining the light on these incredible individuals who have sacrificed so much in the name of freedom,” said County Commissioner Peter Browning.

By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. Residents can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
