Whatcom County looks to join the growing list of counties in Washington State that are in Phase II of the “Safe Start” reopening plan.

Gov. Jay Inslee issued state guidelines on May 29, according to the Bellingham Herald. Whatcom County Executive Satpal Sidhu told the Bellingham Herald the county is in compliance with the guidelines and is looking to move forward in reopening.

“It looks like we’re well-positioned to move to Phase II in the very near future, barring any unexpected developments,” Sidhu told the Bellingham Herald.

The county’s Phase II variance application awaits Sidhu’s signature, but once signed, it will be sent to the Washington Secretary of Health for approval.

Meanwhile, Whatcom County residents are encouraged by the county Department of Health to continue practicing social distancing and hand hygiene and suggests residents to wear a face mask when in public.
