Whatcom Water Week Returns September 10-18, 2022

Celebrate our local water resources and have fun during Whatcom Water Week, September 10 – 18, 2022. Water Week offers many different family-friendly events throughout the county with opportunities to have fun, learn, and make a difference. Visit https://www.whatcomwin.org/water-week-events for a complete calendar of events and details. There’s something for everyone!

Water Week kicks off with the Run with the Chums family-friendly 5k and kid’s sprint, a Family Field Day at Birch Bay State Park where you can explore tide pools with beach naturalists, and an Ochre Sea Star Crochet-A-Long. The week is full of options. Take a tour of a water or wastewater treatment plant, the Bellingham Waterfront, or the Lake Whatcom watershed. Participate in the International Coastal Cleanup. Attend story time. Pledge to save water or scoop the poop. Learn how to garden green and prevent stormwater pollution. Lummi Island residents can take the Watersafe Challenge.

For photographers, the Water Week and We Scoop photo contests are up and running. You can also help take photos of the Padden and Squalicum Creek restoration projects.

New this year is Plastic Matters, a week-long event to raise awareness about plastic production, impacts from plastic on water and other natural resources, and plastic alternatives. Plastic Matters will include a community plastic pick up event and a plastic trash art display.  And back again this year is Bellingham SeaFeast on Saturday, September 17 at Zuanich Park and Squalicum Harbor.
